RNID

Campaign message: "Win the chance to change the world... make a real difference where you live."

Aim: To recruit young volunteers in London, Bath, Birmingham and Manchester. To find and nurture young, local volunteer campaigners aged 16 - 24. To recruit young campaigners for RNID’s established national campaigns: Don’t lose the music, Noise at Work and Breaking the Sound Barrier.

Number of people involved: 1 (supported by Press and Marketing Team of 26)

Launched: May 2007

Campaign description: Having received “V” funding, RNID launched a volunteer recruitment campaign to help reduce the stigma of hearing problems amongst younger people while helping to develop a new generation of campaigners. The campaign was designed as a competition, giving the young people a chance to “win” a volunteering opportunity.

Postcard: RNID used their regional offices to distribute the postcards at local youth groups, deaf clubs, universities, schools, events, talks/ presentations and career services. The postcard was designed by RNID’s in-house design team. They printed 10,000 copies and distributed them to the four relevant regions at a cost of approximately £2000.

PR work: RNID sent out a press release to relevant local and regional newspapers to co-ordinate with Volunteer’s Week. The press release simply outlined what the project was about and how 16-24 year olds in the area could get involved.

Outside agencies involved: None

Results: Young people were asked to apply via the website at www.rnid.org.uk/lifechanging. RNID did not monitor how each applicant had heard about the volunteering project/ campaign. 14 applicants were successfully recruited as volunteer campaigners.
